As we started our search for a lakefront property, where we will eventually build our retirement home, we did the “normal” southern Ontario resident thing and started to look north of Toronto. The more we looked, the more we came to the realization that the hustle and bustle of Toronto is now apparent in Muskoka and the surrounding areas. We were then lucky enough to find out about Kennebec Shores when we went to the Spring cottage show. At first we were not quite sure about travelling east of Toronto rather than north, but after our first visit, we fell in love with not only the properties on Kennebec shores, but also with the surrounding area. The drive is no different than the 400 except that when the 401 is busy, there are other options to get to Kennebec. Once you get to the Kennebec community, you can feel the hustle and bustle of the week quickly shed off. Our lakeside lot is as beautiful as any Muskoka property, with shield rock, beautiful trees and clear waters of Lake Kennebec for swimming and fishing. The more we spoke to Mark and learned of his passion for building a lasting community at Kennebec, the more we knew we made the right decision. But now that we have met some of our future neighbours, we are even more sure of our decision. We look forward to every minute we spend at the Lake as we start to clear our property and we can’t wait to start to build our retirement home here in the near future. Mark Snider not only has a passion for the area but has also been extremely helpful as we were making our decision about the purchase, and unlike many people in his profession, Mark continues to be a wealth of information and is already a regular visitor when we are at the Lake. If you are looking for something special, you shouldn’t hesitate. You could also become a part of our great community.

We had a very specific type of property in mind when we decided to start looking for a place to retire. Our search took us over two years but, we finally found the gem we had envisioned – Kennebec Shores! It met all the criteria on our list, such as waterfront, spacious lots, intimate, peaceful and easy access to all the amenities. Although Kennebec Shores has a sizable public park to explore right in our back yard, we discovered that this amazing development is just a stone’s throw from several provincial parks like Bon Echo and Sharbot Lake. To top it off, there are a myriad of hiking, biking and walking trails close by, the Lennox & Addington Dark Sky View is only 20 minutes away and it’s all part of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere, a designated UNESCO world biosphere. Who wouldn’t want to wake up here every morning? We must, of course, thank Mark Snider. Right from our very first meeting, Mark has demonstrated his wholehearted passion for this community. He is a consummate professional, generous with his time and expertise and has sweated all the small stuff, so we didn’t have to. As we watch our house take shape, we are thrilled because soon we’ll be able to say, “We’re living the dream!”

We were surprised that even with the thousands of acres available in Ontario how difficult it was to find a suitable lot for us. We are city dwellers looking for a change; an escape from busy Toronto. At Kennebec shores we finally have privacy without isolation. We fell in love with our lot on first sight and are building using the talented people in the surrounding communities. Services are relatively close by and even though the development is new there is already a sense of community with a mixture of cottagers and year round residents. With the help of Mark the transaction itself was painless and we are well on our way of building our home.
